History of SMA BPI

SMA BPI was established in 1957 under the name SMA Bagian C. Initially, teaching and learning activities were not held at the current BPI Campus on Jalan Burangrang, but at the original BPI school location, where SMP Petang was founded in 1948. This location was the former Europeesche Lagere School (ELS), situated at Jalan Logeweg 3 (now Jalan Wastukencana), Bandung. ELS was an elementary school during the Dutch colonial period, primarily intended for Europeans, foreign Eastern descendants, and selected indigenous elites. Over time, the building became SMEP Negeri, then SMEA Negeri, and is now known as SMKN 1 Bandung. At that time, SMA Bagian C operated in the afternoon, led by Mr. Kadar as the principal.

In 1962, after the completion of classroom buildings on Jalan Burangrang, SMA Bagian C was relocated to the BPI Campus and became widely known as SMA BPI. In 1972, SMEA BPI was also established at the same campus and operated until 1979.

During the 1980s, the number of applicants to SMA BPI increased significantly. As a result, from 1983 to 1986, the school schedule was divided into two sessions: morning and afternoon.

In 1986, SMA BPI was officially divided into three schools : SMA BPI 1 (morning session), SMA BPI 2 (afternoon session), SMA BPI 3 (afternoon session)

In 1998, both SMA BPI 1 and SMA BPI 2 operated in the morning session. Later, in 2010, the operation of SMA BPI 3 was discontinued and transformed into SMK BPI.
